Hand-made by Brian Brown
Almost thirty years ago we began designing guitar cables using the science behind electronics. Today, we welcome a new friend into our family. Like the original Hard Truckers, Brian Brown has spent his life on the road. For the last decade Brian has been working exclusively with Phish and Trey Anastasio and has now joined the Hard Truckers Organization of Sound Specialists. The Hard Truckers are proud to announce a guitar cable created by Brian that is reliable, durable and has the clean clear sound that exemplifies what professionals use today.
Brian will be hand-making all Hard Truckers guitar and instrument cables to the same tight standard that he uses on the road. If it doesn’t meet Brian’s standard to be used in front of 20,000 screaming fans, then it’s not worthy to be used… by anyone. Each cable is meticulously measured to make sure it’s just right.
The science behind a guitar cable is the same today as it was when we first hand made our guitar cables for the Grateful Dead many years ago. Resistance, Capacitance and Inductance are the properties behind measuring a good cable. High Resistance decreases the audio signal. High Capacitance rolls off the high frequency response. Finally, High Inductance alters the tone depending on the length of cable and whether or not the cable is coiled. Today a good cable is defined by Resistance under 100 ohms per 1,000 ft, Capacitance under 100 pf (picofarads) per foot, and the cable cut to the proper length to avoid coiling and poor Inductance. In your quest for the perfect tone, You Want the Least Resistance and the Lowest Capacitance. It’s in the science and the science doesn’t lie. Today’s manufacturers confuse consumers by interchanging; “best” and “most expensive”. Don’t be fooled by the false claims that “gold-plated” connectors are necessary. We know what it takes to make it on the road and on the road the “gold-plating” just ends up flaking off. We are the best and we don’t have to be the most expensive.
Our Hard Truckers guitar and instrument cables can’t be beat. Manufactured using top of the line Canare GS6 Cable and industry-standard Switchcraft Connectors (straight and right angle available), the Hard Truckers back up their cables with science. Our cable has a nominal DC Resistance of 5.6 Ohms and a Capacitance of 49 pf/ft. On the road Brian’s guitar and instrument cables have a reputation for being very durable (due to good strain relief and an extra thick flexible core), low noise (due to an innovative shielding design built into the GS6 cable), and 100% reliability. Brian meticulously measures each cable after its construction, making sure they measure out at less than 1/2 ohm from tip to tip with NO leakage from tip to shield.
Here is what Canare has to say about their GS6 cable… "A specially designed Oxygen-Free Copper 18 AWG cable for connecting Guitar/Bass or Keyboards to amps, mixers, effects pedals and all outboard signal processing gear. Low capacitance and low series resistance provides improved frequency response (flat to 50kHz). A bright, ringing characteristic sound is preserved, even with long cable runs. The proprietary double Carbon/Braid Copper shield construction eliminates microphonic handling noise, especially on stage where amps are often set at maximum volume levels. Also highly recommended for Amp Head to Speaker Cabinet leads."
Brian has worked with every brand of cable available and chooses Canare GS6/Switchcraft cables to make on the road for Trey, because each cable REALLY MATTERS and it HAS TO BE PERFECT, every note.
Industry standard lengths are available online at our special introductory prices. Custom orders and lengths are subject to availability and touring schedule, feel free to contact us with your custom cabling needs. Supplies are limited. Stereo cables and other assorted road gear that Brian makes exclusively for Trey including A/B Boxes and the “Isolator” will be available in the near future.
Whether or not you understand the science behind the electronics, you will hear the difference in your tone when you have your rig outfitted with Hard Truckers Guitar and Instrument Cables—Hand-Made by Brian Brown. |
